The idea that staying current with technology for business to shine is a no brainer for most of us. Yet, why is it that some of us hesitate to get on with it? I've been talking about creating a blog since I first heard the term about 2 years ago. Well folks, I took the plunge. This is my first blog. I went through the creation of the blog, and when it was completed, I came across this space to start typing and so I did -- that's all I know about it.
I now have the answer to the question of why some of us hesitate. It's because I am now looking at the title of the blog, the tabs at the top titled posting, settings, template, create, edit, moderate etc., and and I say to myself:
What do I do now to really get this going?
What if this doesn't work?
Is the blog template supposed to look like my website?
If I hit the tab that says, Publish Post, where will it go?
How do I change the template?
How do I publicize the blog?
I could have continued to ask many more questions that would have prevented me from creating this blog today. What held me back? The four-letter word that prevents most of us from doing what we intellectually know is the right thing to do -- FEAR of failure, the unknown, making a fool of ourselves, appearing dumb. So I took the plunge and tackled the first step.
The first step, no matter how small, is better than agonizing, stressing and exerting all that negative energy. When my clients are overwhelmed with fear or a large project that renders them motionless, we talk about breaking that baby down into small steps and tackling just one small piece. What that first step does is motivate and energize us to the next step, which I am certain this first step in creating my blog will do for me. Stay tuned for more tips on How to Shine in business, at work and in our lives.
